Biography
Yin Zhang, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Data Analytics at Washington State University (Everett), with a joint appointment in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. His teaching focuses on data analytics, statistics, mathematics, and computational methods, with an emphasis on helping students develop practical skills they can apply to research, graduate study, and careers in data science and analytics. He is particularly interested in incorporating Python, statistical computing, and real-world data applications into the classroom and connecting quantitative concepts with practical problems.
Dr. Zhang’s research interests lie at the intersection of data analytics, statistics, and applied econometrics. His work applies statistical and computational methods to real-world problems in areas including public safety, environmental economics, transportation, and behavioral analysis. His methodological interests include causal inference, time-series analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, and statistical modeling.
Before joining WSU Everett, Dr. Zhang was a Statistical Scientist (Postdoctoral Research Associate) with the Center for Interdisciplinary Statistical Education and Research (CISER) at Washington State University. During his time with CISER, he worked extensively on the Washington State Data Exchange for Public Safety (WADEPS) project, applying statistical and data-driven methods to large-scale public safety data.
Dr. Zhang earned his Ph.D. in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics from Washington State University. He also holds master’s degrees in Statistics and Mathematics from WSU and a master’s degree in Financial Economics from the University of San Francisco.
