Undergraduate Certificates

Overview

The Program in Data Analytics offers certificates designed for students and professionals seeking to strengthen their data-driven decision-making skills. These certificates provide practical knowledge in programming, data analysis, visualization, and statistical modeling—skills highly valued across industries such as finance, healthcare, marketing, technology, government, and education.

Available at: Everett, Global, Pullman, and Vancouver campuses
Note: Students enrolled in the Data Analytics degree program are not eligible for these certificates.

Certificate Options

Stackable Certificates

Designed for students who are new to programming, mathematics, or data analytics and wish to develop foundational skills incrementally. These certificates may be combined with an internship course and a capstone course to satisfy major requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics.

Foundations of Data Analytics

Build core skills in programming, data analysis, linear algebra, calculus, and statistics.

  • Credits: 18
  • Courses: CPT S 121, DATA 115, MATH/DATA 225, MATH 171, STAT 212 or equivalent

Intermediate Data Analytics

Advance your expertise in programming, data handling, visualization, SQL, and statistical modeling.

  • Prerequisite: Foundations of Data Analytics Certificate
  • Credits: 15
  • Courses: DATA 219, 301, 302, 303, 319, 324, STAT/DATA 360

Advanced Data Analytics

Master comprehensive analysis, visualization, ethics, and advanced statistical modeling.

  • Prerequisite: Intermediate Certificate
  • Credits: 15
  • Courses: DATA 422, STAT/DATA 435, STAT/DATA 437, PHIL 450, approved elective (3 credits)

Standalone Certificates

Designed for individuals with solid programming and math experience, especially those seeking focused, career‑relevant skills without committing to a full degree.

Foundations of Data Science

Focus on programming, machine learning, and statistical methods.

  • Admission Requirements: MATH 171 or equivalent; and CPT S 121, 131, or CS 121
  • Credits: 15
  • Courses: DATA 115, 219, 225, 301, 302, 303 or MIS 372, STAT/DATA 360

Intermediate Data Science

Develop advanced skills in modeling, repositories, regression, and visualization.

  • Admission Requirements: MATH 171 or equivalent; and CPT S 121, 131, or CS 121
  • Credits: 15
  • Courses: DATA 319, 324, 422, STAT/DATA 435, 437

How to Apply

Before you begin, determine which description matches you.

  • You are a non-degree seeking student if you want to complete a certificate program, are not pursuing a WSU degree, and are not currently enrolled at WSU.
  • You are a current WSU student if you are already enrolled in a WSU degree program and want to add a certificate.

Follow the steps below for your student type and the campus you plan to attend.

Non-Degree Seeking Students

Non-degree seeking students are individuals who want to complete a certificate program, are not pursuing a degree, and are not currently enrolled at WSU. Follow the steps for your campus.

Everett | Pullman | Vancouver

  1. Visit the WSU Admissions website and choose your campus to apply. 
  2. After you receive your admission confirmation, continue with the next steps.
  3. Complete the Data Analytics Certificate Form – Fill out form for enrollment in the certificate program.
  4. After your registration period begins, you may self‑enroll in certificate courses.

Global Campus

Current WSU Students

Current WSU students who want to complete a certificate should follow the steps for their campus.

Everett | Pullman | Vancouver

  1. Contact your academic advisor to discuss certificate options.
  2. Complete the Data Analytics Certificate Form – Fill out form for enrollment in the certificate program.
  3. Once enrolled, you will be assigned a Data Analytics advisor.
  4. After your registration period begins, you may self‑enroll in certificate courses.

Global Campus

Contact your academic advisor to apply for the certificate program and complete any additional steps required for enrollment.

Processing Time

Please note: The process may take several weeks to complete.

Awarding of the Certificate

At the beginning of the student’s final semester of coursework, the student should apply for the certificate through myWSU. This will notify the Registrar’s Office to confer the certificate.
Steps:

  1. From the MyWSU Student Homepage, select Academic Advising.
  2. Click Apply to Graduate.
  3. The certificate should display as an option to select for Apply for Graduation.
  4. Certificates require a separate graduation application and are mailed separately from diplomas.
